I am one of the GNUMail developers and GNUMail is based on GNUstep and this its
discussion list. So as far as this goes, you are correct.
GNUMali relies purely on GNUstep and openssl, nothing else. GNUstep itself is
more an alternative to GNOME and GTK, so it does not depend on it. I am a bit
puzzled you get errors on Gnome. GNUstep does support some freedesktop
features, but has no hard dependency on it.
However, I do not use nor know PureOS, so I don’t know how it packaged GNUMail.
I read PureOS is debian based.
How did you install? what are your sources.
