Something from that O'Reilly article on Rotor that caught my eye was
the Apache Portable Runtime ( The homepage says
it provides compatibility for C. Could this be used [in combination with
cc++] instead of home-growing a new compat lib for pnet?

Never trust an operating system you don't have sources for. ;-)
