Invitation to join the DotGNU Legal Info Association

Several DotGNU users and contributors have expressed interest in
more detailed information on what legalities there might be in
relation to using DotGNU software, and in relation to contributing
to the project.

A few people from the #dotgnu irc channel have recently founded an
association (under Swiss law), the DotGNU Legal Info Association,
which has the goal of obtaining and publishing such legal information.

Our interest is not limited only to making sure that no legally valid
complaints can be made against us, but we are also interested to know
what we can reasonably do to protect ourselves from any risks related
to frivolous lawsuits.

The initial statutes are online at http://dotgnu-legal.info/statutes.txt
and the initial Board consists of Maciek Plewa and me.

If you would like to contribute to steering a community process that
will create quality legal docs related to DotGNU, please sign up at
http://dotgnu-legal.info/ to become an association member. The
process for creating these "legal info" docs will involve raising
money and paying lawyers to provide legal advice; however joining
the association does not require any significant financial commitment.
(It would not be a true community process if voting rights were limited
to those who can afford a big membership fee.)

We will hold a General Assembly via irc in ca. 5-6 weeks. The exact
time for the General Assembly will be determined as follows: Everyone
who joins the association by Oct 22 will be invited to submit an email
message with information on what are "good" times for this member.
The initial Board of the association (i.e. Maciek and I) will collect
the results, post them to the association's members' mailing list, and
call for a General Assembly at a time which has received a maximum
number of "that is a good time for me" votes. (It is possible that
this "maximum number of votes" rule may not determine the meeting time
uniquely, in this case we will choose one.)

The agenda of that General Assembly will include Board elections (since
the statutes do not prescribe the number of board members, the General
Assembly can choose to elect any small or big number of Board members)
and establishing a decision-making procedure for the association.

Greetings, Norbert.
