I saw an invitation to donate on the Dragora website. It says it is
for
Dragora release 3.
1. What do I have to expect from version 3?
The aim is to give continuity to the project in every sense, to further
complete the distribution, to improve and correct aspects. Basically.
I think I can give some more details: known bugs should be fixed and
packages will be upgraded to the latest stable releases. Linux will be
upgraded to the latest LTS version. I don't want to get anyone hopes up,
but we can expect at least some items in the "wishlist" to be fulfilled.
There is a wishlist in Dragora's git repo, but I also keep a mental
wishlist myself: e.g. IceCat and OpenJDK support, porting to arm64
ppc64el riscv64. I would very much like to help upgrading and testing
non-essential packages.
On the other hand, even if I or someone else made patches, Matías would
need to review and approve those, which is something he can't do right
now. Matías doesn't talk much about it on the mailing list, but the
economic situation is abysmal in Argentina, the inflation rate is 3
times higher than Venezuela, everything is expensive. He has his family
and himself to feed, and it is unrealistic for him to work on Dragora
while he and his family struggle to make ends meet. I hope I described
the situation accurately so that everyone understand how bad it is.
2. Will the X login bug be fixed in version 3?
Yes, this needs to be fixed.
3. What would be a good amount of money to pay you for an hour of
work?
(Perhaps this is impossible to answer.)
I don't think that any money in symbolic and virtual terms can cover
the value of a work of art. Rather, living in a monetary system, art
is often limited by money.
I would also like to add that "every dollar helps". I set up a monthly
recurring donation via Paypal. I also sent some money online via Western
Digital once. Every penny/peso would be appreciated.
In the future maybe the Dragora project and FSF can setup a fiscal
sponsorship, so that the donation can go through FSF and can be
tax-deductible for people in the US. But for now it's not possible,
because FSF requires at least three long-term contributors, as well as
some other requirements. Let's work towards that goal.
