Hello all --

I've looked in the archives for people reporting issues similar to mine and 
found two tips:

issue a hdparm  hdparm -d 0 -r 0 /dev/hdb (or whatever)

upgrade to 2.4.18+ kernel version.

Well, I am getting the same problems that these two previous to me reported and 
these tips don't seem to work for me.  I'm on kernal 2.5.18-3 already and the 
hdparm directive was accepted but I made another $4 coaster anyway.

Linux 2.4.18-3 (stock redhat 7.3 kernel)  on a Celeron 1.7Ghz, 512 MB Ram
with a Pioneer DVR-104 which shows up in the dmesg like this.
