There are no reported problems with expensive discs
like those; it's the cheap discs that have problems. 
A Pioneer DVD-R costs £4.49, which is far too
expensive for me.

Specifically, discs that burn at 2x on a Pioneer 104
have been reported to burn at 1x or not at all on a
105.  Pioneer have been accused of deliberately
programming the firmware to reject cheap discs made by
manufacturers who do not pay them royalties.
