Well, dired-x.el binds it to dired-omit-toggle.  But I agree.

For dired-omit-toggle, `ESC ~' might be a useful binding which is
suitably mnemonic.  Is the default binding `not-modified' useful in dired?

Be indiscrete.  Do it continuously.
