    So, abbrev-defs is chenged by something after .emacs is loaded.

I tried the recipe and it did not fail for me, so that approach won't
work.  However, you should be able to narrow in on where it gets set.
For instance, you could put a breakpoint at Fload and display the value of
Feval (intern ("abbrevs-changed")) at the beginning and end of each call.
