No, but the Elisp manual says:
Also add a backslash before whitespace characters such as space,
tab, newline and formfeed. However, it is cleaner to use one of
the easily readable escape sequences, such as `\t', instead of an
actual whitespace character such as a tab.
The last sentence might provide some further argument for ?\_, which I
still believe to be clearer than ?\s, because the latter could provide
human confusion with ?\s-, even though there might be no syntactic
conflict.
