What I say below will probably be ignored, but I feel I must say it
anyway.

The current discussion and the suggested changes is nothing more than
a regress: we are slowly going back to the less compatible names and
structure we had before Emacs 21.1 hit the streets.

I think we should leave the menus alone.  It took a lot of work to
come to what we have now, the result exists for quite some time, and
it didn't make users unhappy.  As they say, the enemy of "good" is
"better".

And on top of that, now is not the time.  Let's leave any changes in
the menus for Emacs 23, which will have changes anyway, due to
Unicode.
