BTW, sometimes I need to see the number of bytes in the region
in addition to the number of characters after typing M-=
`count-lines-region'. This way I can see how many bytes this region
will occupy when saved on disk.
The same information could be displayed in the mode line using some new
customization for `size-indication-mode' after the release.
