I thought there was sort of an agreement that the unicode-2 branch
would be merged and stabilized before multi-tty. Though the branch is,
AFAIK, in a really good shape, I wouldn't expect the process to be a
matter of days or even weeks (though, truth to be told, perhaps I'm
being a bit pessimistic).

I don't agree. The burden of being mergeable without loss of
features/bugfixes should be on the multi-tty branch, not on the trunk.
Not that that means it's OK to make live difficult to the multi-tty
developers, of course.
