You mean in the same way as C-M-% has a special binding in isearch?
I guess that would make a lot of sense, except that highlight-regexp
doesn't have any keybinding,

One possibility is of course bind it to C-x w h in isearch, like in hi-lock-mode. Could that possible disturb?
