Emacs passes

cvs -f status "./"

and in a DOS window I get, for example,

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

c:\Programme\Emacs-trunk\src>cvs -f status "./"
cvs status: Examining .

c:\Programme\Emacs-trunk\src>
------------------------------------------------

with similar results for many other dot/slash/backslash combinations I
tried.  cvs -f status works as expected.  Does `vc-dir' work for you?
