That's my position too.  This problem is mostly irrelevant to enabling d-s-m.
Everyone who don't like C-SPC or C-x C-x activating the region can turn off
t-m-m or use additional C-u/C-g.

IOW, t-m-m should go hand in hand with d-s-m.  And turning off t-m-m
should also turn off d-s-m.
