That looks like a separate problem with Cygwin's libgif. Ldd on cyggif-4.dll
itself reports the X11 dependency. I'd be happy requiring the X11 DLLs until we
fix the problem over in Cygwin. I'd also be happy compiling --without-gif: it's
up to you.
