Do you have anything from app-emacs installed, too?
If so, try running emacs -nsl. If that avoids the problem, something
from the app-emacs category probably is incompatible with current master.
If that does not avoid the problem, try moving
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-gentoo.el out of the way and then trying
emacs -nsl again.
