Right I just found out that git behaves differently and behaves as
expected. Sigh  I just made my up my mind to switch from RCS to hg...

Ok that seems to do it, but is seems to me that from the command line
git log

Has the nicer output than 

 hg log -v

Shrug that cannot be helped.
