Both true. But I think authentication is an unavoidable burden anyway, at least if we aim to target a larger audience. More ease of use = more possibilities for abuse as well.
Using the Gitlab API for issues requires to create a personal access token via the Web interface, and to use it properly. Another burden.
I don't think the majority of bug reporters would use this approach, to be honest.
Yes, I'm just playing with this API from within Emacs:-)
