Depends also on your desktop.  That colour comes from your desktop.  I
just switched my desktops theme to dark and opened ‘emacs -q’, the
highlight’s background is black.

FWIW Emacs’ default theme should have a preference here, given the rest
of the colours do not really depend on the toolkit theme.
