Well, the fact that I don't use Rmail doesn't mean that I'm not familiar with that feature, which exists in other MUAs.If you think about this as "filtering", then you have different features in mind, not the ones discussed here.
I just tried Rmail, again I had a very positive impression, and again I regret that it works only with mbox files and not with Maildirs.
Anyway, unless I misunderstand something, the "summary" in Rmail is called the message "index" or "list" by other MUAs. And the rmail-summary-by-* commands are called "filter", "select" (a subset of messages) or "limit" (the index to a subset of messages) by other MUAs. Is "limit" perhaps a better word?
For example, rmail-summary-by-recipients would become "Display a summary limited to messages with the given RECIPIENTS." This seems close to what the manual already says: "C-M-r makes a partial summary mentioning only the messages that have one or more recipients matching the regular expression rcpts".
And rmail-summary-apply-filters-consecutively would be rmail-summary-gradual-limiting or rmail-summary-incremental-limiting.
