If it were not for how the nature of our work precludes consulting any
standards, and by extension exploiting any foreknowledge of their
implementation, then yes.

How so?  And why would Firefox concern itself with XCOFF and aout, when
it doesn't support either AIX or HP-UX?

These interfaces are very superficial and haven't been ported to even a
fragment of the systems Emacs has.

If that hasn't transpired in 35 years, I doubt it will in the next 35.
