I haven't really followed the discussion closely so I'm not sure what
you want to hear, but none the less:

I use windmove all day and all night with its default keybindings.
I also use winner-mode with its default keybindings.
As for configuration, I have just

  (windmove-default-keybindings)
  (winner-mode 1)

in my init.el.  They have been there for ages.  I am happy with the
default bindings.
