Both are wrong for *latex*.

But I get

1 + 4 in R is \texttt{5}.

In both cases, and when I export to pdf I get `5.' (via copy and paste).

I am using

 commit a752684bf0368ddea1f6480157e770c0dd57b7a5

which is the latest in master.
