You need to incude MELPA as package archive in your .emacs, e.g.:

|       '(("gnu" . "http://elpa.gnu.org/packages/";)
|       ("marmalade" . "http://marmalade-repo.org/packages/";)
|       ("tromey" . "http://tromey.com/elpa/";)
