Markdown, Asciidoc and Pandoc? There are many modern solutions to
exporting from text to pretty formats. Org just happens to have many
more features. If Org's core features (ie: outlining) are in your way,
perhaps one of those tools is more suitable?

Emacs has modes to fontify those formats too.
