Aqua: closing Speedbar early crashes Emacs

I have in my .emacs:

;; get the speedbar
(if window-system
   (speedbar)
   ;; else
   (menu-bar-mode nil))

When I start Emacs from the Dock it comes up no problem, with the
speedbar.

If, however, I close the speedbar before Emacs finishes loading,
Emacs crashes completely and there is no crash report under
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter.



In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.4 (powerpc-apple-darwin6.2)
 of 2002-12-26 on swain-computer.local.
configured using `configure '--with-carbon' '--without-x''
