If the crash doesn't happen outside of GDB, you could simply tell GDB
to pass it to Emacs, or ignore it.  See the line of src/.gdbinit
which says this:

   handle SIGALRM ignore

for an example of how to do that (more info about this is available
in the GDB manual).
