Ever since Emacs-CVS has turned on the save-abbrevs by default,
I have the problem that after opening a file in sml-mode, I'll
get asked sooner or later whether I want to save my .emacs_abbrevs,
even if I've never ever used abbrevs in the session.
The reason is that sml-mode defines a few abbrevs and does not
mark them as `system' for the simple reason that this extra argument
didn't exist before Emacs-CVS.
Now, being the maintainer of sml-mode, I can fix it (although it's
rather annoying to have to check whether define-abbrev accpets the
extra argument), but there are several other packages out there suffering
from the same problem.
I think we should change it so that abbrevs are not considered
modified whenever you call define-abbrev, but only if you call
one of the interactive interfaces to it.
