I gave two, one was to use :options which will give a checkbox [ ]
instead of an [INS] button. The other is the one below.
I just tried that, and what I got was an INS button plus one element
which I could enable using [ ]. That element refers to None and None,
and I cannot find any way to change them. What is its purpose?
I think this interface is quite confusing.
It does sound like you have a general problem with the editable list
widget UI, at least for empty lists. That affects a lot more than
alists.
Yes, in general, though how bad the problem is may depend on the
situation. It would be really good to find a better interface for
this.
For most alists, the order does not matter. So imagine that
there is a dummy element at the front. The dummy element
has slots to fill in a car and a cdr to make it a real element.
If you fill them in, a new dummy element appears automatically.
