Splash page fails to display

Symptoms:


I built Emacs from CVS as noted below.  When Emacs is launched from
within X11 (using XDarwin and OroborOSX), the Emacs splash page fails
to load; the the "About Emacs" page loads instead- just as if I was
launching a plain terminal version of Emacs.


In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin5.5, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2003-12-03 on localhost
configured using `configure '--with-x' '--with-x-toolkit=lucid' 
'--without-carbon''
