Re: dired with `alR' switches fails with `other' permission

    GNU Emacs 21.3.50.17 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
    configured
        --with-type1
        --prefix=/usr/local
        --with-sound=yes

    When run on a root-owned directory with permissions

        drwxr-xr-x

    by a non-root user, dired with the optional SWITCHES arguments `alR'
    fails with this error message:

        insert-directory: Listing directory failed but `access-file' worked

I looked at this today and did not get the failure.
Does this still fail for you?
