Emacs can't quit if .recentf cannot be written

Symptoms:

With recentf-mode enabled I can't quit Emacs with C-x C-c if .recentf
cannot be written (my disk quota has expired -> filesystem is readonly).



In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.2.4) of
 2004-02-26 on nymfe56 configured using `configure '--prefix=/tmp/ema'
