Yes, but it can keep arbitrary amounts of data live, and it's a fairly
obscure feature (not documented in the user manual).

I don't know generally, and it's difficult to tell how much garbage it
keeps around indirectly. It can hold quite a lot from repeated
evaluations, e.g. from many trips round a loop in the debugger.
