buffer name containing a newline corrupts display

Display gets corrupted if a buffer name contains a newline.

   1. C-x b C-q C-j RET -> The mode line and the scroll bar are erased.
   2. C-l -> The tool bar is also erased.

Emacs 21.3 handles this case correctly.
