Strange. I've certainly built from CVS since 2/19, using what I assume is the standard procedure:

make maintainer-clean;
cvs up -d
./configure --enable-carbon --without-x
make bootstrap tags
sudo make install

In the past, that has updated/replaced the package in /Applications, but that wasn't happening. This time I first moved /Applications/Emacs.app out of the way and got a fresh build--one in which the bug no longer appeared.

Sorry to have bothered you with this!

Would you please look at this?

It looks like a build failure -- mouse.el has been changed, but since it
is preloaded, emacs must be rebuilt to give proper behaviour.

The failing code was built on 2005-02-19 which is too old...

Moving the mouse pointer over the splash screen, items in dired,
inverting text in the *Apropos* buffer, etc. results in a beep/bell and messages of the following sort in the minibuffer (and in the *Messages*
buffer):

mouse-on-link-p: Wrong type argument: integer-or-marker-p, (#<window 14
on *Apropos*> 269 (94 . 75) 0 nil 269 (11 . 5) nil (6 . 0) (8 . 15))

The problem appears to be in the function tooltip-show-help-function
(in tooltip.el); the variable pos is being set to the cdr of
(mouse-pixel-position) and then passed to mouse-on-link-p, which then
breaks.

I've tried launching w/o a .emacs file (mv ~/.emacs ~/.emacs.bak; open
/Applications/Emacs.app) with the same results.

Disabling tooltip-mode makes the problem go away.
