ispell appears to hang when Underscore is made a "word" class

Symptoms:

emacs-22.0.50 --no-site-file -q

Then evaluate this region   (modify-syntax-entry 95 "word")

I know there are warnings about doing this, but it sure makes my life
easier. This is the only thing I have stumbled across that is odd.

Then put a line like this of underscores. There are 77 of them

Set a region around the line of underscores

Then do

M-x ispell-region

It appears to hang. But I think it is in a very long iterative
process. I shortened the underscore line to _______________________

and it comes back in a few seconds. Just a couple __ and it isn't even
perceived to delay.


So, I know I am messing with the character class of underscore but
this seems to be a serious enough problem to report.
