AFAIK, it just maps the names.  The fonts you have are those installed
on your system; Emacs cannot add anything to them (unless you install
BDF fonts from GNU intlfonts).

Has been done already, quite a few times.

They are the same fonts, just named differently.  Again, AFAIK.

That's what I do, and it works for me, although I didn't try all the
possible combinations.
