Buffer names with UTF-8 characters not correctly displayed in Buffers menu

Hello!

File names like áÛïǓà.txt or äöüßÜÖÄ€ or  
simply Komm zurück are correctly displayed in the mode-line, but  
their names appear strangely spelled in the Buffers menu  
(aÌUÌiÌUÌaÌ.txt, aÌoÌuÌÀUÌOÌA̬, or Komm zurÀ¼ck) or in  
the "Buffer Menu" pop-up  
(aì<box>Uì<box>iì<box>Uì<box>aì<box>.txt,  
aì<box>oì<box>uì<box>Ã<box>Uì<box>Oì<box>Aì<box>â<box>, or  
Komm zurÀ¼ck) while the buffers overview (C-x b) shows:
