Are you using the ALTERNATE_EDITOR environment variable? Because the
emacsclient.exe from the unpatched distribution shouldn't try to
execute runemacs.exe *at all*, unless you're doing

C:\yourpath\emacsclient -a runemacs.exe my-file.txt
