I don't see  what you're doing with that.  AFAIK, the *scratch* buffer
never dies, never surrenders. If the default Lisp mode is not your cup
of tea, you can change it, AYK :-)

Wonder if it is at all possible to not have this buffer, AFAICS, plenty
of code depends on it.
