How is the age of the bug relevant? Searching for ASCII characters with \ca matches different characters than searching for ASCII class characters with [:ascii:]. Surely that's a bug that needs fixing, rather than a feature to be added later isn't it? We're not required to follow the spec, but it's not good to use 2 different definitions of ASCII.
