    I don't know who to write to, but I'm not sure that we would ask the right
    question anyway (a mode-line for a buffer without focus is presumably the
    same kind of widget yet it's face is unaffected by Metacity for some 
reason).

These are not widgets, they are Emacs faces.  It sets up a resource
for one face and not for the other.

I understand this problem and I know what to do.  All I need is to
find out where to write about this to reach the Metacity maintainers.
Would someone please find out and tell me?
