"-Q" also refrains from reading the site-wide init file, so renaming
.emacs is not enough. Please do try with -Q.
If "emacs -Q" still exhibits the same behavior, then please send the
offending file (in the same way as you received it from whoever sent
it to you), and please show the exact sequence of commands you type to
view this file.
