I haven't done this yet, but it's worth doing, from the root of a
build tree:

find . > /tmp/pre.list
make
make distclean
find . > /tmp/post.list
diff -u /tmp/pre.list /tmp/post.list

to determine whether are files are not being cleaned up properly.
There were a few culprits in 1.0.8.
