Unless I am misunderstanding something, this should not be allowed.  Why
is printing a routine dependent on the routine execution state?  Such
state may very well not exist, and in any case nothing in a routine
printed form depends on it.

I would not have anything against making a variable visible; the problem
is that the variable is not in scope, for good reason: the state is not
a parameter of the printing function.

However if you have a use case, of course, we can discuss it.  This
issue remains open.
