Thanks Bruno.  It does not help, unfortunately.

Of course I am not offended by the suggestion, or by you.

The fact the copying a repository directory does the right thing and
cloning it via git does not offends me quite a lot.  Using the “smart
HTTP” CGI script
https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-on-the-Server-Smart-HTTP is also
offensive, since we are speaking about copying things that are stored in
files and are not changing.
