[Erc-discuss] Failing to get ERC notifications working

Hi,

I'm using the std version of erc that comes with emacs (24.4.1).  Running 
on linux/gnome.

I've enabled notifications in erc, but when someone uses my nickname I get 
a dbus error message:

(dbus-error "No connection to bus" :session)


I believe that my emacs is compiled with dbus support, and I can see the 
dbus-daemon running on my sysytem.  Any ideas what could be going wrong?
