Valek and I are in contact since January this year. It is not about
forking a project, it is about two separate, independent projects that
have not merged (yet).

The two projects have set similar, but not quite identical goals. Valek
Filippov has chosen a breadth-first approach, setting to provide Cyrillic
to the base 35 PostScript fonts (and beyond?), and I have chosen a
depth-first approach, aiming to provide a wider Unicode coverage for a
more limited set of fonts. Their goals are not incompatible, though, and I
am not excluding possibility of a merge in the future.

Also, apart from a couple of Serbian glyphs, there is very little
independent work on Cyrillic glyphs in the Free UCS Outline fonts, so I am
not really sure if Valek is really motivated to merge when he is on the
giving side and hardly getting anything in return. In the minimal
scenario, however, we need to occasionaly synchronize with his work.

Thank you for your concern.

With kind regards,
