I have not personally worked with this machine, but I recall that
someone else has and FreeIPMI worked.

Hmmmm.  Did you build this out of your own directory and not do a make
install yet? FreeIPMI requires the file /var/lib/freeipmi/ipckey to be
installed.  Does that file not exist?
 
(Even if the above is not the case, this does make a good point that
FreeIPMI should be able to work in local builds without an install. 
I've added that to my TODO list.)

Argh!  The guile-devel rpm on the FreeIPMI website is messed up.

I think AB is the one that originally built that rpm, so hopefully we
can get a new one on the web soon.  I will send you instructions for a
temporary fix via another e-mail.
